People are Valuable

My heart is hurting for what seems to be going on in the world.  I understand the news is biased in what is reported on.  However, no matter the subject, the main issue remains the same; people mistreating people.  People are attacking other people, physically, vocally, in protest and all other forms.

At what point can we all just see others as valuable human beings?  It seems to me that we only see labels, outward appearances, skin color, country of origin, etc.  When do we begin to remember at the core of who we all are, we are all striving for the same things... love, understanding, trust, belonging, admiration, etc.  I'm not suggesting a naïve approach to each other where we strive for world peace by being overly kind and handing out rainbows, while ignoring the important issues of life.  I'm simply praying for a non-violent, non-hostile way of communicating and seeing each other.

In conflict, protests can remain peaceful; arguments can remain non-threatening; resolutions can be compromising.  There will be times in this world when someone or one side has to win at one point; but why can't we as humans remain civil to each other (especially in the area of opinions)?  Human beings in essence are all traveling on the same journey of life, we just have different paths and destinations.

There are so many excuses to my question... upbringing, cultural bias, mob mentality, etc.; but at some point in any situation we all have to take responsibility for our choices and actions, otherwise the cycle and blaming continue.

I read a quote once that I’m currently choosing to focus on; “Concern should drive us into action, not into depression.” - Karen Horney. Maybe my focus could be on solutioning what positive action I can take… oh I know! How about scheduling some time with me to discover just how valuable you are, and how you can make a positive impact in another’s life. ;-)
